The Company
B-nano develops a breakthrough imaging technology bridging the gap between optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It offers 10x improvement in resolution compared to existing optical microscopy without the need of vacuum and clean environment associated with high resolution microscopy such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
The Problem
Microscopy is used in research and development, medicine, diagnostics and quality assurance in diverse fields such as life science, material science, the semiconductor and the metallurgic industries. Optical microscopy, the most common technique used is limited in resolution. High resolution microscopies such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) offer resolution of few nanometers but calls for working in a vacuum environment. This limits the number of samples that can be analyzed and is an obstacle for integrating the technique into systems operating in non-vacuum.
The Solution
A new breed of imaging engine is under development. It offers 10x improvement in resolution compared to existing optical microscopy and is free from the high vacuum and super clean environment limitation. The new technology is an enabler for samples and processes that are not compatible or might be impacted by the vacuum environment; it offers flexibility, because it can be integrated into any other system operating in a non-vacuum and ease of use. These all translate to more qualitative data in less time.
Market Potential
The new microscopy addresses both existing markets such as material science and the semiconductor industry and emerging markets as nanotechnology and bio-science spanning a market over $1 Billion.
Products
The first product planned is a one-stop-shop X1-X100,000 affordabley priced microscope with AFM and EDX options, intended for mass-use in the lab.
The Team
Dr. Dubi Shachal – founder and CEO,
Dr. Rafi de Picciotto-chief physicist,
Avi Simon – Chairman, have spent over 50 years of their careers in inventing, developing, as well as marketing optical and electron-optical microscopy based technologies at Orbot, Opal, ElOp, Bell Labs and Applied Materials. In doing so, they have acquired hands-on experience in all aspects of the business: R&D, marketing, manufacturing and business development.
Company Status
During the last year, the B-nano team has shown resolution of 20nm in non-vacuum, developed demonstration capabilities and now is in the phase of benchmarking its technology in various fields as semiconductor wafers, nanomaterials, emulsions, inks and biological samples.
