The approach adopted by the projects team was, to identify & define Traditional Wankel engine’s Drawbacks & deficiencies, implementing an inventive approach to eliminate these drawbacks and applying the technology to the changing market requirements in the aspects of Efficiency, Reliability & heavy fuel Compatibility.
The Problem
Wankel rotary engines are commercially operating since the early to mid 60’s of the last century.
At the time, Wankel engines regarded as the “next promise” of engine industry and was adopted by some of the leading engines manufacturers, emerged in cars’ light aviation, utility and sports vehicles, propelling stationary and portable pumps and generator.
Its unique characteristics and design of the traditional wankel engines offered a small, light engine with less moving parts in comparison with conventional reciprocating I.C engines. However, traditional wankel engine has some basic inherent drawbacks that had limited the extent of use of the wankel worldwide.
At the end of the 70’s the use of wankel engines was abandoned by most manufacturers and was limited to specific applications by others.
Potential Applications
-
Aviation: Light aviation & U.A.V.
-
Land transportation: cars, trucks & Motorcycles.
-
Marine: Boats, small to medium yachts.
-
Military: U.G.V to man-portable applications.
-
Recreational: A.T.V, Jet Boats, Snowmobiles, Ultra lights.
-
Auxiliary units & Power packs :Portable independent units and electric supply for weapons operation, air condition systems, and other appliances.
-
OEM: Tractors, Pumps, Compressors, Blowers, Sweepers, Generators, Front Loaders and man-portable tools.
The Product
In comparison with prior art rotary and piston engines, the Rotec system enables the embodiment of an engine with the following qualities:
-
Higher Efficiency (low fuel consumption) at any operational conditions compared with Wankel rotary and piston engines (including four strokes).
-
Highly improved power to weight ratio in comparison with prior art Wankel and piston engines.
-
Unthrottled, heavy fuel (Diesel & bio diesel) C.I. engine similar to S.I. engine in RPM, power to weight ratio and output power.
-
Turbo charging, fully scavenged combustion chamber and expansion volume characteristics, contribute to high performance, high efficiency and altitude compensation as well as reduced noise & pollutant emission.
Competition
Today wankel engines are in limited use at cars (Mazda), light aviation (UAV & Ultra lights), leisure and sports vehicles (snowmobiles & Jet Ski), propelling stationary and portable pumps and generators (Rotamax & others).
Apart of being identified as competition, the above mentioned and alike are also potential future collaborators.
